Guilty music pleasures.

Tue Jun 10, 2008, 7:48 PM

Working on Cardboard Angel and farting around on YouTube to satisfy my dorkiness. Anybody got some guilty music pleasures? Songs you're pretty embarrassed to admit to liking (or even if you're not embarrassed), simply because they're not your normal 'genre'? I'm sure I've mentioned some of mine before, but I'd like to further alienate everyone by posting corresponding videos. Feel free to link me with some of your own. I like experimenting LD

1. Eddie Money--I Wanna Go Back [link]
This is a classic. They played on the radio station at work and I did a happy dance (namely because right before it came on, I was hoping they'd play it . . . .). I'm glad nobody was in the room with me at the time. I'd have some explaining to do.

2. Go West--King of Wishful Thinking [link]
Newfound Glory did a cover, which i also heard at work one day. Not sure what i think of that XD; The video is a bit quirky and humorous, and is probably older than a lot of you on my watch list. But that's okay; cheesy--but good (to me!)--music knows no age limits.

3. Access--Naked Desire [link]
. . . . Don't let the title fool you. it's perfectly safe. It's from, uhmmm . . . . A LONG TIME AGO. 1993, to be exact. I have it on VHS. Back in the day I collected everything having to do with Daisuke Asakura, and that meant Access. I like Access still (mostly old Access, but the stuff from their reunion has been okay) . . . . I'm apparently trying to relive the early 90's. Now I leave all the squealing and collecting to the younger kids . . . I just can't keep up!

4. Kome Kome Club--Roman Hikou [link]
This isn't Psycho le cemu, kids--this is the original, and in my opinion, by far the more superior version. Tatsuya Ishii's voice is . . . . GOLD. I believe he did a song for Gundam Seed . . . . ? Check out more of K2C's stuff or his solo stuff. PRETTY. Argh. I'd recommend MATA(C)TANA or Funk Fujiyama for starters. Those songs are awesome :B

5. Takashi Fujii--Nanda Kanda [link]
I . . . . know the dance to this. *cough* Takashi Fujii is really spiffy. Just . . . FUN. I can't really explain it. I have only just begun to look up his new stuff (Oh My Juliet is a funny video).

6. Mitsuhiro Oikawa--Puzzle no Kakera [link]
Micchi is an anomaly. This is a serious song, but he also does extravagant numbers like Barairo no Jinsei and Mikatsukihime. My favorite song of his is actually Kanashimi Rocket ni go (ni as in '2' in Japanese). Oh, and he acts, too. With Love and Koori no Sekai are my favorites.

Gosh, I'm old, and all of these videos prove it. But humor me--you may find something you like! Or you can counter me with something for me to watch.
I now must resist the urge to break out my Access and Micchi video tapes. G'aaaaaah . . . *hack cough* There will be more, someday, so be prepared. BWAHAHAHAHAAAAA . . .

PS. Buy Red String. Volume 3 has a tiny cameo of Mitsuru and Watanabe!

Ooh, this is fun. I could totally go on forever.

let's see,

I LOVE Skye Sweetnam. It's so embarassing. I could totally try to justify it saying she worked with Tim Armstrong and therefore she's punk in some way but it won't change the fact that she's a total teeny bopper. And I love it XD.

And I like really cutesy indieish-pop more than I really should. I still haven't gotten sick of "Hey There Delilah". I also like post-AFI-goth-punkish-pop way too much. I have all of Aiden and I Am Ghost's albums and EPs.

And psychobilly. Probably my biggest guilty pleasure. I adore really cheesy psychobilly bands with big colourful upright basses that sing about zombies.

And I actually am begining to realize that I like Timabaland. It's very embarassing.

Okay, I'll shut up now.

I love Tori Amos first in foremost, I get made fun of a lot for that =( And Cibo Motto, Xandria, Serinia =) Delirium is a good one if you like new age/ Enigma type stuff, as is Deep Forest.
