I went in wanting to create a sculpture of musician Jeff Buckley, and came out with a painting instead!

While watching his music videos and his 'A Wished-For Song' book open to a close-up photo, I sketched his face quickly on a piece of thin cardboard (from a photo frame). Then I put the book aside, only glancing at it, and proceeded to paint Jeff with cheap acrylic craft paint. First brown, then black. I used brush cleaner to kind of blend it . . . not really. The white/grey came last . . . an afterthought. It wasn't supposed to be there, but I like it so I kept at it. The title refers to that, since it looks like wings.

This probably took me the better part of an hour. As for my proposed sculpture, well . . . the damn clay was too hard and messy to work with. I think I'll try Sculpey instead.

Jeff is a major influence in my life, and I always come back to him as he's one of my favorite subjects :3 . . . . Yes, I see the unibrow. It's supposed to be there. Jeff once said a difference between him and his musician father Tim was he 'shaved his unibrow, and I don't.'
